About Shannon Wiseman
I grew up on a ranch with horses and cattle in central Alberta Canada. I loved growing up there, but I also wanted to experience life beyond my small town. I went to Philadelphia for college, earning my BS in Economics from the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School in 1995. After graduating, I decided to stick with big city life and moved to New York City. I spent four years in NYC, working around-the-clock as a mergers and acquisitions analyst for a Wall Street investment bank and then as an investment associate for a venture capital firm. While life in the Big Apple was great fun, I missed the mountains, both for skiing and the long horseback riding trips I enjoyed growing up. I missed having the great outdoors being a part of my life. I made the move back west in 1999, attending Stanford University’s MBA program. I fell in love with the Lake Tahoe area, but decided after graduating to get even further back to my western roots, and moved to Jackson Hole Wyoming, taking a job with the new Four Seasons Resort there. I worked in the residential sales department, ultimately being promoted to Director. It was a great place to live, with great skiing and horsebackriding, and breathtaking scenery.
In the meantime, I met my husband Ken there, moved across the state line to Driggs, Idaho, a scenic 45-minute commute from Jackson, and we were married in July 2003. Soon after that, we decided it was time to move somewhere with more career growth opportunities, and we chose to move to Reno after reading an article in Ski magazine about Reno being a “ski town”. It sounded like a place we could have a balanced lifestyle. Since we had horses and dogs, we chose to buy country property in Reno, and found Rancho Haven on Red Rock Road to be a good match.
Our spare time consists of horseback riding in the summer and skiing in the winter, along with spending time with our FIVE Labrador Retrievers (we do Lab rescue!). We feel this is where we will raise our family, with the small city feel, and the low amount of crime, we can't think of a better place to live.
